About Helper
Once the center of Utah’s coal mining district, Helper is now home to a thriving arts community.
Northern gateway to Utah’s spectacular canyon and plateau country where visitors can find an astonishing assortment of national parks, recreation areas and scenic byways.
The town got its name from the “helper” engines that the Denver & Rio Grand Railroad used to get its west-bound trains up the steep grade to the summit of Price Canyon.
Helper’s Main Street commercial district as well as many of the surrounding residential streets are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Helper community’s commitment to historic preservation is reflected in the many beautifully restored homes, shops, hotels and vintage signs along Main Street.
